100607 TVXQ’s U-Know Yunho Chosen as ‘Goong’ Musical Star

Dong Bang Shin Ki leader U-Know Yunho will turn into a musical actor. Yunho has been honored to be cast as South Korea’s Prince Lee Shin, for Musical ‘Goong’.

Similar to the original comic story, the musical’s main theme would set in a unique imagination setting as if the Republic of South Korea is still a country with constitutional monarchy system. The story will begin with an arranged marriage between the prince and a tomboy high school teenager due to political reason that makes her enters into a life in palace, from that point the conflict will start to roll.

‘Goong’ producer on the 7th said, “U-Know Yunho is proven already with his singing and dancing skills, he’s also experiencing many stage performances through various concerts and he has an outter appearance just like a crown prince as well as charming eyes that could grasp the audiences, we think that we have chosen the rightest person.” and, “He has a passion to be a musical actor, sincerity, and positive attitude.” revealing the reasons why Yunho was casted.

The producer also stated, “U-Know Yunho’s new figure as a charismatic musical singer that has never been seen before will be revealed through this stage.” giving a high expectations.

‘Goong’ musical produced by Group Eight which produces drama such as Boys Over Flowers is coming out on September 8th and will open at the Seoul National Museum’s theater.

From the cast pics above: The first three male pics will be playing Shin, then the first two females will be playing Chae Kyung, next two males will be playing Yul and the bottom 2 females will be playing Hyo Rin.

Yong Theater at the National Museum of Korea holds 862 seats. Since there will be 2 other stars who will play Shin in the musical,hopefully, they'll announce which dates Yunho will be playing Shin.

All the cast, INCLUDING YUNHO, had to audition for the musical. He was selected because of his ability to sing, dance, act, and charismatic stage presence along with the looks to best play the role of Shin. The decision was made about a month ago and practice started about 2 weeks ago.

Goong to be turned into a musical

Four years after it was a drama sensation, Goong (aka Princess Hours) is being turned into a musical. (That means that the franchise has a manhwa, a drama, a drama spinoff, and now a theater production.)

Production company Group Eight announced on February 2 that the musical would open on September 3 at the Seoul National Museum’s theater. Group Eight had reportedly considered the possibility of a musical adaptation from the outset, and this version will bring back the main producers of the drama series, including writer In Eun-ah (who’d gone on to write My Tutor Friend 2, Love & Marriage, and — surprisingly? — horror series Hon).

The Cinderella drama that catapulted Yoon Eun-hye and Joo Ji-hoon to stardom was known for its splendid visuals and costuming that mixed classical Korean hanbok and royal garb with a modern flair. The musical will also feature a fusion of song styles, from classical to hip-hop, jazz, and traditional Korean. Dancing will range from ballet (one of the main characters is a ballerina) to court dance to B-boying. Leads for the musical are currently being auditioned.
