100728 U-Know Yunho – “I Was Really Nervous About The Kiss Scene”

U-Know Yunho (24 years old – Real name Jung Yunho) publicly expressed his apprehension towards the kissing scene.

U-Know Yunho will take the role of Prince Lee Shin in the Musical “Goong” this coming September at the Yong Theater of the National Museum Of Korea. He will play the cool and charismatic flower boy Lee Shin who unfolds a love story after his marriage in the Goong with an ordinary girl’s high school student Shin Chae Kyung.

In the individual interview included in MBN “Entertainment Magazine V.I.P” that is to be released on the 30th, with regards to questions involving the kiss scene, he expressed, “I anticipate it yet am nervous about it at the same time, because I can’t practice it without a practice partner! I will show everybody when the time comes. If I were to turn into a real crown prince, how would I handle it?” This creates a lot of curious thoughts about the kiss scene. He also said, “I want to do volunteer activities with my juniors,” showing his caring nature.

As a senior who holds great power in the singing world, U-Know Yunho have guidance to his juniors. He states, “I still miss the stage. I can’t recognize the new idols that come out, so I have to personally look them up. I’ve experienced in advance the depression a 30-40 year old man would encounter, so it is a really good experience. If the idols now can endure the difficulties and overcome them, then that would become a stepping stone towards their growing maturity.”

The release on the 30th includes the hot practices of the Musical “Goong” and Yunho’s ideal type, as well as an honest interview.

The Musical “Goong” is produced by the team at MBN, who also worked on “Couple of Fantasy”, “Boys Before Flowers”, among others.

Acting is a new challenge and what my character has given me is plentiful of emotions.

He has a height of 184 cm, beautiful dancing that charms people as well as a voice that touches one heart. The artist that has captured many Japanese souls with these abilities is Yunho. As the leader of TVXQ that leads the members, as compared to any one else, he has to always control his desires. Today, as he stands at the highest idol position (T/N: best idol), he feels that he is not worthy of it and that is why he continues to work hard with each day. In order to unravel a new him, he has never stopped challenging himself. This time, he tried acting. Last year, in a Korean drama , he tried acting for the fist time and it has gotten a lot of attention.

"From a Japanese view, heading to the ground is a rather shocking expression as the ground is really wide and thick and heading towards it would be really painful. It really does feel like it's a weird thing right? (Laughs) However, in Korea, it refers to trying out something bravely even if it seems impossible to achieve, just like an idiom. In daily conversations, it's usage is similar to "shocking"." (Laughs)

Bong Goon, which is played by Yunho, is a soccer player under a club. A resilient him is full of passion for everything he does and although he met with troubles after the team was dismissed, he managed to become one of the top soccer players. Please tell us this process interestingly.

"To me, this drama is really heading to the ground (the meaning of it as an idiom). During the production of this, because I had to challenge many special stunts, the people around me were worried and I was indeed a little doubtful if I could bring out Bong Goon well. However, it is during that time that only Bong Goon encourages me. When it's tough or when I'm feeling insecure, I will always think "what would Bong Goon do under this circumstances". No matter what difficulties he faces, he will always try to get over it with his best efforts. He is a very determined and confident person. I have already bonded with him and because I have the same feelings as him, I can overcome any difficulties."

In the middle of the interview, Yunho laughed and said, "it feels as if I've really become Bong Goon!!"

Because a person's life is not always filled with happy things. When the drama ends, there will still be tough and painful things. However, the me, then and now, will always have Bong Goon's enthusiastic and resilient characteristics."

If a person continues down a dangerous route, the route will become a person's wealth. I've become even more positive after meeting Bong Goon, Yunho said. He also said that he and Bong Goon are really similar as they both overcome difficulties using their own strength and are resilient people. When he was young, he had to experience working many part-time jobs to earn school fees for his sister. He passed the auditions at the age of 14 with a dream of becoming a celebrity.

"Although I was already very positive but the methods then and now are a little different. For example, last time, I saw being a leader as a responsibility and felt that I had to say "it's okay" every time and have maintained that sort of emotions. However, although I might not have such a position already, I will still wonder if I need to say "it's okay" and that the current me has "become more gentle". As I overcome difficulties with Bong Goon, I understood that I can always learn something out of any obstacles. Even if it's a dangerous route, if I continue walking and never give up, it will become an accomplished person's wealth. As my mentality has changed in this way, the insecurity and fear that I had felt then seemingly disappeared."

What's most important is to "never look down with pain but to look up happily and proceed forward". For Yunho who is always smiling, where has he reached now?

"My goal is to become a celebrity that can produce a song that will always stay in people's heart. Then, to show different sides of myself to everyone. In order to show everyone different sides of me as a celebrity, I will never stop working hard!"

Today is a special day. In order to always improve, training and lessons are indispensable. Do you not feel any stress from your daily life?

"I will walk around or along the Han River. I might jog or visit the sea. I would drive and enjoy the speed and scenery outside the window, which I will never forget. When I return home after that, I'll be filled with energy. Although a life that requires me to continuously travel from Korea to Japan is tough it is also a life that I enjoy. Japan has many delicacies like rice bowls and curry ramen... isn't there many delicious dishes? (Laughs) This afternoon, I also ate my favorite beef rice bowl. It' really delicious!"

Before he sleeps, Yunho will always reflect on the day under his blanket.

"At that time, I will always feel a little lonely. Because, as the day ends, I can never return to it. However, because it's like that, I will always treat everyday with importance and work hard. If I go by each day happily and fruitfully, a year, a life will become something special. Today seems to have become a happy day? Indeed! To be able to model for Spur is indeed a joyful thing and maybe because I ate beef rice bowl! (Laughs)"

Popular a capella group TVXQ's leader Yunho, began his solo activities formally as an actor. Continue to gain new experiences everyday, he then talked about his future dreams.
'I want to let everyone see my acting which I put in efforts wholeheartedly and my growth with that character'

Started to play the leading role in drama series "no limit~ HTTG" as soccer player Cha Bong Goon last year. He was very happy when he heard his dvd ranked no.1 on chart in Japan.

'During filming, there was soon the scene speeding in motorcycle, and there was also scene which I jumped into the fire. There were a lot of dangerous scenes that I didn't use substitute, but acted them personally. The scene I fall into Han River too... But, because I want to let everyone see my acting which I devoted wholeheartedly, things that I can do, I did them all.' This is the attitude of the new actor Yunho.

'Bong Goon is really a man with positive thinking, who pours in all his efforts no matter when. "There is a possibility to be successful if strive hard...". It is same with me at this point. Although he was a very childish person at the beginning, and his character was not good either. When I was acting this I felt,"This is a bit different~" (lol) However, he later tasted despair and has risen above it. As Bong Goon grew, I also changed. Whenever I feel painful physically and mentally at work, I often think of,"What will Bong Goon do?" I seem to have grown with him.'

He stood on stage of MJ tribute concert in Korea in March this year and is currently rehearsing for Musical "Goong" which will begin in autumn.
'For me, this is another new challenge. I am really glad that I received this opportunity to train myself. I want to show everyone a fresh Yunho with new attitude. The character I played in "Goong" is a crown prince Lee Shin, who is opposite from Bong Goon who grew in poverty and adversity... "Although they are totally different, but they are Yunho too.", this kind of fresh feelings.'
From here a new challenge began.
'I have always wanted to act in a movie formally. It is also meaningful if I play as villain, because the usual me gives aggressive impression to the others. I don't want to be limited in this kind of image, I want to challenge various characters. Besides that, my latest hobbies is begin to learn tap dance. I am going to show it to everyone if I finished learning, please look forward to it.'

'The age range for Japanese fans is very wide, from small kids to mothers, different kinds of people will come to give their support. Especially the generation of female in 'Fujin Koron', who need to look after their families, as well as working ladies. To attend this fanmeeting during free time is really troublesome right? I am very happy if our existence able to fully fill in everyone’s energy.
Since my mother is also working, so I can understand better the trouble for balancing work and family. But in Japan's fanmeeting, I can see the whole family (come to support) with happy mood and I am touched by that, "ah, this is really good~"
Ladies who put in all their efforts no matter for whom and enjoy their life are pretty! I will also feel difficult when there is only work. Able to discover something interesting, is very important for continuation of life.
My favourite thing now is bike. In this season, to ride on the bike along Han River with the wind blow in my face, my mood is great!

I have always wanted to repay everyone.
My future dreams, not only as a singer and actor, but also as a stage director who can create my own stage from scratch, etc. Another thing is to let those who want to be an artist to learn free of charge. For those who have abilities and ideas but don't have chance due to lack of money, I want to support their ambitions. I have been hearing this from seniors in celebrities world and my father, "After Yunho has become famous, have to repay a debt of gratitude by helping others within your abilities." and I am going to do it someday.
My father, whom is like a teacher and friend to me, has been giving me advices. The words that left deepest impression on me was, 'A genius can't win over a hardworking person, a hardworking person can't win over an optimistic person.' If you do something with positive mood, you won't feel difficult even though you have to try hard, if you continue to work hard, you can surpass the genius. I have spent my time happily today, and become an artist who can bring happiness to everyone too. I am going to work harder from now onwards.'

The latest interview of Yunho that is just published, have you read it yet?

Despite it’s just released yesterday,
the editor already received a lot of warm messages,
such a struck of deep inspiration to an editor!

Speaking of inspiration, the day of shooting was a full of joy as well.
Once Yunho-san entered the studio, he greeted all staffs politely.
While to me, he said this.

“I ever did an interview last year in Fujinkoron, so this is my second time meeting you. Please take care of me.”

Last year, TVXQ appeared in ‘Fujinkoron’ 7/No.22 issue, he remembered us from that time.

He must meet many people from work every day,
but even remembering that just one day, moreover when there wasn’t even any magazine interview at that time…

It’s obvious that Yunho always values and gives a lot of concern to each and every single work of him, I feel like tearing up.

And, the shooting started.

The photographer Kobayashi-san’s tone and exposure are perfect.
There was an excitement among staffs,
He showed a lot of various expressions.

The cool Yunho,
Yunho who is pouring coffee,
Yunho who is scanning through documents,
and Yunho……. doing a peace sign.

The charm exists in every part of Yunho’s face.
Which Yunho that is most favorite by everyone?
While me, my favorite one is Yunho biting the chocolate.

Oh, and from where the chocolate Yunho ate comes,
since there have been several questions about that coming to the editor,
I’ll take this opportunity to tell you.

I had a good time! I was able to show all of you many new sides of Yunho. I felt nice and good.

I’m not a person who easily gets sweaty, but, it was hot. It was really hot, but I tried my best for the shooting.

(Q: Today, we requested you to wear autumn/winter clothes. What fashion items are you looking forward to for this autumn and winter?)
Fashion items, accessories, for example, sunglasses, boots, gloves, turtlenecks.. there are many items. I think that the balances of those items are the most important. I am looking forward to them, too.

Go snowboarding. I really like snowboarding, I recently bought a snowboard. I’m really enjoying my new snowboard.

Recently..my personal taste, I personally like bowling. I ordered my special bowling ball. And, I had a new record! 235 points! My new record!

After the photo shooting session had ended, Yunho laughed as he said such. Since his hobby is photo shooting, he told us he has two cameras now.

[The memories of Bong Gun, is closely related to my past memories]
The chat topics unfold as he said so. Yunho, the leader of TVXQ, the DVD of his debuted drama series immediately rose to the top spot on chart by the moment it was released. This interview was conducted when he came to Japan in conjunction with the releasing of his DVD.


----What do you think of your first challenge in acting?
I always want to try it since I never have the chance to try it before. Of course my acting skill is still not so good now, but with my passion I will strive to improve it.

----Do you like drama series and film?
Yes, among the actors I like Johnny Depp the most, especially his film 'Edward Scissorhands'. I wish I am able to challenge various characters like him. When I was a high school student, I already had this in my mind, therefore I started to believe at that time, let it be singing or acting, those are performances that can express different feelings to many people. Hence, the things which I have rare opportunity to do it, the things that I did can become part of my experiences, I would like to do them all. This kind of feelings still hasn’t changed till now.

----If you do not have the job like what you are having now, what would you like to do?
To be a prosecutor is my ambition since young. That's because of my personality that like to justify between right and wrong.

----What's your feeling during filming?
I was still having tight schedule at that time, but I decided to take the role after I read the scripts. The most important is Bong Gun this character. He is me before my debut and me nowadays, and there is usual me in that character too. A person who has nothing but dreams, and advances with just his dreams. Besides that, I am the person who do not shed tears easily, Bong Gun also didn't cry during his development. (lol) The part which he values his family and friends is same like me.

----Please tell us when was the last time you cried?
When I was standing on stage in Tokyo Dome, I was truly amazed and touched by the fans (lol)

----Bong Gun is a character with distinct emotions. You really worked hard to act it out.
I wanted to display another side of me which is different on stage, and that was my initial target. Now I am so honored with your compliment.

----How do you work hard on your acting skills?
No matter what I am still a new actor, so there are still many parts that I lack of. However if compared to the efforts and hard work, there were more happy moments. My perspective towards the others also changed. In order to refine my acting skills, I learned a lot from observing other people's actions. Other than that is working hard. If there is a snack in front, I will start thinking 'What will Bong Gun do?' So I always practice at backstage during a-nation performance. When I am thinking back now, this opportunity in acting had changed my feelings towards my works.

----What do you think of yourself in the future since you gained experience from this drama series?
It is still the same as music, I want to challenge different characters more. For me I still do not have acting platform. For example Johnny Depp, he is able to use his own platform to fit into any role. I want to set that as my goal. Bon Gong as the origin point, and will persist forever as the guardian in my heart. So that in the future when I recall the process of interpreting this character, I want to live optimistically as him too.

----Are you a person who does not fear of failure and regret?
I do mind. However you can't get positive result if you keep on being pessimistic. I think the beautiful memories can be captured through the lens of camera, so that I have positive mood every time I look at them (the photos) even when I am facing hard times. In the future I hope to move forward without feeling regret.
